From mid-August until mid-September, James and I went on a road trip all around the Western United States. We started in San Diego and headed towards Seattle, where we met friends, Jess and Dotty. From there, we headed back together to San Diego.
We spent about 2 weeks making our way North and just under 2 weeks going back down South. Here’s the rough overview of our route.
Here are three maps, which show in more detail where we went. It’s in 3 parts because Google Maps couldn’t handle how many places we went on this trip.

Part 3:
We went to 13 National Parks in the end. We had the annual pass, so for all 4 of us, the total cost was only $80. I definitely recommend getting the pass, even if you’ll only go to 3 National Parks in a year. The National Parks we went to were: Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon (North Rim), Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, Arches, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Crater Lake, Redwoods, Yosemite, Sequoia/Kings Canyon, and Joshua Tree.
We drove a total of 6,205.6 miles on this trip. I think if you drive to Seattle from La Jolla, it’s only about 1,700 miles. So, I’m not sure where the extra 2,000+ miles happened.
I’m only just now going through my pictures, but here are some that I posted during the trip:
I would also like to acknowledge my amazing car that put up with all the driving. The Steed aka the Horse with No Name.
I promise, we did wash the car!
I would also like to acknowledge our home for about 3/4 of the trip, my very photogenic tent!
More posts and pictures will be up soon!
